RE: Betty Rexford
Betty never called to request a fire truck visit her neighborhood.
Fire Truck:
Betty Rexford never asked for special treatment from the Fire Department. The Poway Fire Department handled the 2003 fires in a professional manner, and made strategic decisions regarding where to deploy fire trucks based on the goal of protecting the city and residents. No truck was ever dispatched as a personal favor.
Betty never called to request a fire truck visit her neighborhood.
Dog Walking:
No one from the sheriff’s department or any other city employee has ever walked Betty’s dogs for her. When leaving town, Betty has always either hired a professional to walk her dogs, or had friends of hers come by to walk her dogs.
Vacation checks:
There is a form at the (Sheriff’s Department?) that any Poway resident can fill out. The form lets the Department know that the resident will be out of town, and requests that periodic checks on the home be performed. Occasionally when going out of town, Betty filled out one of these forms.
Settlement of Personal Claims:
Betty and her husband did not agree to settle any of the personal claims against them. The Rexfords were told by their insurance company that they had no say in the insurance company’s decision of how to handle the case.
Settlement of Claims Against Betty in her Official Capacity:
Betty was in Las Vegas caring for her terminally ill son when the City decided to settle the case. She was told by the attorney who represented her and the City that she should agree to the settlement, not because she had done anything wrong, but because it was the least costly alternative. She never agreed to the settlement and did not sign the settlement agreement.
